Vintage Country Swing
WHAT'S NEW ------ Rosin the Bow- Our new season of TV SHOWS on Nutmeg TV will begin on November 1 at 8:00! Nutmeg is seen in Avon, Berlin, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, New Britain, and Plainville CT.
MP3's! Tell us what you think- we are moving into Western Swing and
blues. We won't leave our Irish roots, but Swing is so much fun to play!
We started
Rosin the Bow to share the traditional music experience with our audience. We both love the irreverent styles of the early blues and western bands. The comment we hear most from our fans is something like, "You guys sure are having fun up there." As we progress into different genre we try to find ways to make a song our own. We blend older styles into a new sound - Swinging-country-blues. We use an informal format with plenty of room for jokes and ad-libs, and we keep the show moving at a brisk pace. We want to give our audience the kind of show we would enjoy paying to see.The
Rosin the Bow band members are: Grant Day- banjo and vocals, Marta Day- fiddle and vocals, Ron Francois on bass, Marty Brennan on guitar, Tom Riley on steel guitar, and many friends who help fill out the sound.Currently, we are performing at coffee houses and festivals all over Ct. We finished taping six shows for the Nutmeg TV Cable Network and they are being shown right now. Our goal is to expand our fan base and play venues in all of New England.
We don't need no stinkin' artist's statement. We are a honky tonk, hard drivin' bluegrass band with classic country and old time rock and roll added to the jam. Led by blues legend Marty Brennan, we play monthly at the Brass Tacs Tavern in Waterbury and anywhere else that will have us. On bass we have Lonesome Louie Audette, on mandolin and vocals we hijacked Possum Pozzi from Shoregrass (check out ShoregrassShoregrass), we got Happy Day pickin' banjo and Marta sawin' the fiddle. We ain't polished, but we drive a hard honky-tonk sound. Ya Like Lefty Frizzell or early Merle Haggard? Check out the Moonshiners! Our motto is: "the more you drink, the better we sound". We might come up with a demo if ya ask us- better yet, come on down to the Brass Tacs for happy hour. Park yer Harley outside, toss down a coupla brewskys, play a game of pool, eat some of Toni's sausage and peppers, dance with the ladies or gents and enjoy the Moonshiners!
Old Stone Church- Blue Grass Festival and Auction, May 2008 "The Moonshiners ROCKED, their energy lit up the room." Stephanie Kilburn, entertainment organizer.

Funky Monkey Cafe and Gallery, February 2008 "Aren't these guys great? owner Tracy Burill
Willimantic Third Thursday Street Fest, June 2007 "Thank you very much for adding you talents to this month's 3rd Thursday Street Fest. The fest is truly a collaborative effort- and your contributions increased everyone's enjoyment of the evening. We all greatly appreciate your participation." Paul Doyle, festival organizer
Orange Historical Society, May 2007 "Just a note to thank you for livening up our annual dinner. I was not familiar with the songs of the early 20th C and really enjoyed the melodies. They were toe-tapping. Your rendition of Danny Boy was unusual and very beautiful. You both are very fortunate to be blessed with unusual talent. We appreciated your sharing with us. Regards, Phyllis Gwatkin"

Rosin the Bow is a Cheshire Ct. based band founded by Grant and Marta Day. As a duo we have evolved from traditional Celtic, into Bluegrass, into Western Swing, and traditional Blues. We agree, that as a band we want to keep our sound fresh and just a little bit different. Change is good! In our radio show we try to incorporate the irreverent style of the early blues and swing bands yet make these old songs sound fresh and new. Since many of our songs haven't been played since the thirties, it is a challenge to bring good songs back into the spotlight.
Rosin the Bow uses voice, fiddle, banjo, and guitar, as our principle instruments. We also add mandolin, bass and anything else that helps a tune to come alive. Marta Day is a classically trained fiddler who learned the Irish style from her family. Grant Day is an award winning banjo player. With the help of a talented group of friends, we keep the Rosin the Bow sound fresh and ever-changing.
Our second CD, Faire Play, is dedicated to our love of Renaissance Faires. A day at faire is a day enjoying the Renaissance era as it should have been. All of our songs have their roots in the Medieval or Renaissance periods, but we have used tunes or words to allow today's audiences to understand and enjoy them.
